Dorsal spines (total): 9 - 10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11 - 13; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 10 - 12. This species is distinguished by the following characters: body elongated and moderately compressed; lateral-line scales 51-68; mouth that extends under the eye; D IX-X; with bold parallel lines ventral to the lateral-line; presence of scales on the inter-radial membranes of the dorsal fin; with a tooth patch on the basihyal. Colouration: head dark green/brown dorsally; with a black opercular spot; laterally, dorsal one-quarter dark green/brown, ventral one-quarter cream color with distinct black lateral bands; ventral pale yellow/white; anal fin gray proximally with dark gray band on distal one third; caudal fin light gray proximally and dark gray distally (Ref. 133166).
