North America: Coosa, Cahaba, Alabama and extreme upper Black Warrior River systems (all Mobile Bay drainage) in northwestern Georgia, Alabama and southeastern Tennessee, USA.

Inhabits gravelly riffles and pools (sometimes sandy pools) of creeks and small rivers (Ref. 5723); also found in springs, and small, clear streams (Ref. 10294).
