Dorsal soft rays (total): 10; Anal soft rays: 7. Differs all other speces of Oreichthys by having the following characters:lateral line complete; 30+1 scales in the lateral line series; ½4/1/2½ scales in the transverse row; nine predorsal scales; and bright yellow pelvic fins (Ref. 95042).

Occurs mainly in open water with silt as the substrate and with little or no aquatic vegetation (Ref. 95042).
