Dorsal spines (total): 10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 7. Bluish brown head with a pair of red-orange stripes on snout and behind eye; about 8 bars on side of body, red on upper half and bright yellow below, the bars may coalesce to form more or less solid red area, in which case the yellow portions have the appearance of a row of vertically elongate rectangular blotches; across the caudal peduncle is a whitish bar and a red base (Ref. 11482).
