Etymology: Notropis: A misnomer given by Rafinesque to shriveled specimens, with the meaning of "back keel"; from Greek, noton = back (Ref. 45335);  chihuahua: Notropis=ridged or keeled back, and chihuahua=from the Chihuahua Desert (Ref. 79012).
