Presence of longitudinal yellow line on middle of cheek; yellow or brownish line from above middle of maxilla to lower part of cheek; oblique yellow line on occiput behind eye; orange line between maxilla and lachrymal; three transverse yellow line on flank; predorsal with 17-18 scales; cheek and opercle naked; occiput and pectoral base scaled (Ref. 37490); characterized further by having elevated first dorsal fin, without filaments; united pelvic fins, presence of well developed frenum; longitudinal scale series 30-39; head without scales except nape; predorsal scales 9-18;ctenoid scales covering body except cycloid anteriorly; greatest depth of body 4.8-6.0 in SL; rounded caudal fin, longer than head length (Ref. 90102).
Found on sandy-muddy bottoms. Observed associating with snapping shrimps (Ref. 37490). Also found in silty sand bottoms, often on slopes in 20-40 m (Ref 90102).
