Distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: second dorsal, I, 8; anal fin I, 7-8 (modally 7); pectoral fin 16-17 (modally 16); longitudinal scale rows 32-34; vertebral count modally 28; coloration pattern: cheek with 2 distinct oblique blackish brown stripes in male; pectoral fin base with 2 deep brown spots; branchiostegal membranes with 15-18 orange-red spots (light grayish when preserved); caudal fin with 4-6 rows of vertical deep brown lines or spots (Ref. 57935).
This non-diadromous species is found in the shallow riffles of the swiftly flowing tributaries (Ref. 57935).
