Short description
Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics
This species can be distinguised from all its congeners by a dark brown stripe at caudal region extending transversely from region immediately below middle of adipose-fin base to the base of the ventral caudal-fin lobe. Differs from B. rambarrani by the having the supraoccipital process nearly triangular (vs. roughly rectangular). Also differs from B. heteropleura, B. marthae, and B. meesi by the following set of characters: 35-36 vetebrae (vs. 37-39), and absence of dark lateral band along the trunk (vs. distinct stripe in B. marthae and B. meesi, and faint stripe in B. heteropleura) (Ref. 94149).
Prefers small streams not prone to flooding and is associated with marginal vegetation or along sandy beaches in shallow streams (ca. 1 m depth), with sandy or silt bottom substrate (Ref. 94149).
