Indo-West Pacific: Mozambique Channel to Burma [=Myanmar] and southern China to Indonesia (excluding the Philippines and Australia). Found in the Mekong delta (Ref. 12693).

Inhabit shallow coastal waters and sometimes estuaries (Ref. 12693). Possibly enter freshwater in some countries (Ref. 12693). Feed mainly on invertebrates and small fishes. Caught mainly with bamboo traps and set bagnets. Marketed mostly fresh (Ref. 3290).
