Adults occur in lentic and lotic freshwater. They inhabit backwaters, swamps and turbid channels of large rivers (Ref. 2847). Found in small to large pools over rock and sand, usually in more open, unshaded sections of streams. Water temperature typically ranges between 25° and 30°C (Ref. 44894). Omnivorous species (Ref. 7300). Feed on benthic algae. Juveniles have been collected in September, suggesting that spawning occurs in the early to middle wet season (November to February) (Ref. 44894). Eggs are guarded and fanned by the male parent (Ref. 205).
