This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: anal soft rays 14 or 15; caudal fin length 2.75-3.25 in SL; a black spot on nape above opercle; two black spots on first dorsal fin; presence of curving dark brown line from below eye to posterior margin of maxilla; irregular brown markings in white spaces between brownish-red bars on body (Ref. 82599).
Lives on sand-rubble substrata, symbiotic with Alpheus bellulus (Ref. 11441).
