Characterized by generally dark brown color or with 3-4 broad dark bars on side; head with bluish-white spots/bands; dorsal fins with pale-edged red spots; pelvic fins united by low membrane at base of fins; without median predorsal scales; longitudinal scale series 87-92; greatest depth of body 6.3-6.6 in SL; lanceolate caudal fin, longer than head length (Ref. 90102).
Collected from sand and rubble at depths of 10 to 25 m. Associated with burrowing alpheid prawns (Ref. 26237). Found in coastal to outer reef sand slopes, usually in depth over 10 meters (Ref. 48637).
