duri punggung lunak (Keseluruhan (total)) : 72; Sirip dubur lunak: 42. M. bruuni differs from all other species of the genus except M. jesperseni in having a glandular part of the dorsal fin. Is distinguished by the following combination of characters: head short, snout blunt, skull length 3.8% TL, rostral fang with dorsal profile slightly convex forming an almost straight line with frontal part of skull, dorsal fin origin above myomere number 13, and small pectoral fins (ca. 1% TL).
Holotype was captured with a ringnet, at a depth of about 4000 m (Ref. 34506).
