This species is distinguished by the following characters: no fraenum, a high pectoral fin count of 19, a fifth pelvic ray that is 50% the length of the fourth and that branches only once, head bars very vague and difficult to discern, with the postocular bar joining the opercular bar, and a dark, pupil-diameter-width stripe from the eye to the corner of the mouth (Ref. 9018).
Most specimens taken on the reef slope where coral rubble plentiful (Ref. 9018).
