Etymology: Chalinochromis: Greek, chalina = bit, bridle + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335).
Issue
Tanzanian populations are regarded as belonging to an undescribed species C. sp. "bifrenatus" by Ref. 95611. A revision of the conspecifity of the populations of Chalinochromis popelini on the eastern and western coast of Lake Tanganyika is necessary.
