Africa: middle Congo River basin, from Pool Malebo (Ref. 41585) up to the Yangambi area (Ref. 46880), including the Mongala, Dja (Ref. 52307), Itimbiri and Aruwimi (Ref. 106290). Reports from Lower Guinea (e.g. Ref. 41578, 51193) are misidentifications of Pelmatochromis nigrofasciatus (Ref. 81260).
