Schilbeidae (Schilbid catfishes)
Etymology: laticeps: From the Latin "latus" (broad) and "-ceps", derived from the word "caput" (head), referring to the rather broad head in this species (Ref. 43912).

Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Ecology
Freshwater; demersal. Tropical; 3°N - 10°S
Africa: middle Congo River basin, including lakes Tumba and Mai-Ndombe and the drainages of the Ubangi-Uele and the Dja-Sangha (Ref. 43912). Also in the Ntem and Ogowe basins in Cameroon and Gabon (Ref. 81643).
Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 26.3 cm SL male/unsexed; (Ref. 81643)
Dorsal spines (total): 1. Diagnosis: adipose fin present and fully developed; inner side of pectoral fin spine weakly serrated; barbels well developed, nasal barbel at least reaching to posterior border of eye but never reaching beyond anterior border of opercle; posterior nostrils closer to each other than the anterior nostrils (Ref. 43912, 81643). Medium-sized species, growing over 25 cm SL with distinct marbling, particularly in specimens smaller than 10 cm SL, larger specimens marbled and sometimes with more or less indistinct longitudinal streaks (Ref. 81643). Head massive (Ref. 81643), broad and rectangular (Ref. 43912, 81643). Interorbital width 62-74% HL; mouth width 61-78% HL; 39-52 branched anal fin rays (Ref. 81643). Lower jaw reaching as far as upper jaw (Ref. 81643) or slightly beyond snout (Ref. 43912, 81643).
Seems confined to lakes and rather large rivers (Ref. 43912). Oviparous, eggs are unguarded (Ref. 205).

50 = 0.5000 [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01000 (0.00244 - 0.04107), b=3.04 (2.81 - 3.27), in cm total length, based on all LWR estimates for this body shape (Ref.

Resilience (Ref.
