Africa: found in drainage systems of Lake Victoria, Lake Albert and Katonga River in Uganda (Ref. 59344), in the Sio River floodplain and near Ahero in Kenya (Ref. 52331) and in the Lake Victoria system in Tanzania (Ref. 59344). Might occur further north in the Nile system (Ref. 59344).

Spine dorsali (totale) : 0; Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 17; Spine anali: 0; Raggi anali molli: 15. Diagnosis: Nothobranchius robustus is the only species of the genus with uniform brown-red fin colouration on both dorsal and anal fins (Ref. 123150).
Found in marginal, ephemeral, zones of permanent water bodies such as flowing creeks in papyrus swamps, small streams and dead river branches (Ref. 26661, 59344). Usually inhabits the more shallow and quiet parts between bordering vegetation; occasionally in temporary pools (Ref. 26661). Occurs in low water temperatures (21.8°C on average) (Ref. 97291). Incubation period of eggs in captivity is 4-8 weeks and young reach maturity at about 8 weeks (Ref. 59344). Bottom spawner, 4 months incubation (Ref. 27139).
