Short description

Spine dorsali (totale) : 7; Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 8 - 9. Long body almost cylindrical. Height 7 to 9 times in TL. Rounded snout. Slightly inferior mouth and prominent upper jaw. Conic teeth of the lower jaw are the same size. Head longer than high. Nape and belly without scales. Brownish to black body. Scales of the back and of the flanks marked with irregular edging ribbons brown to yellow. Second dorsal and anal fin are beige, sometimes spotted with a darker edging ribbon on the external edge for the anal fin. Pectoral and pelvic fins are greyish to brownish (Ref. 48660).
Inhabits swift clear rainforest streams, where it feeds on algae (Ref. 26638). Hatching and larval stages in the sea, post-larvae and adults in freshwater (Ref. 4343). Also Ref. 51243.
