Symptoms: Emaciation (sunken belly), weight loss, inflamed intestine, sunken eyes, slack, standing on their heads, anormal exudates.   
Treatments: Furazolidon 25 to 30 mg/kg/d for 3 days, added in the food.
Prophylaxis: Avoid overcrowding. Avoid getting disease through careful screening and quarantine of new stock and sterilization of ponds and equipment.   
Remarks: Eimeria is a genus with many, often poorly described species all of which cause Coccidiosis. Very difficult to erradicate once established. May have a two-host life-cycle. Related Calyptospora funduli (parasite of killifish) requires passage through stomach of grass shrimp Palemonetes to release infective sporozoites (see Möller and Anders 1983).
