Africa: Chiloango basin and Dja River (middle Congo River basin)(Ref. 81639). Also reported from the Niari (Ref. 53765) and Loeme (Ref. 81639) but this needs confirmation. Report from the Inkisi (lower Congo River basin) based on a misidentification (Ref. 88779). Report from Eala (Ruki drainage in Democratic Republic of the Congo)(Ref. 41591) needs confirmation.

Taggstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 1; Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 11 - 13; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 8. Diagnosis: mouth inferior; lips rather strongly developed, lower lip with a round mental lobe; two pairs of well-developed barbels, anterior pair a little shorter than the posterior pair, which are as long as, or longer than, eye diameter; lower jaw reaching to, or beyond, anterior margin of eye; last simple ray of dorsal fin strong and ossified, measuring 0.6-0.75x HL; no black stripes on caudal fin (Ref. 81639).
