Etymology: Gymnocorymbus: Greek, gymnos = naked + Greek,korymb = summit, cluster of fruits and flowers (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Stephen Van Rensselaer Thayer (1847–1871) was one of Nathaniel Thayer’s sons (see above). He went on the Thayer Expedition as a volunteer. The holotype of this species was collected during that expedition. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
