Etymology: Telmatherina:Greek, telma, -atos = swamp + Greek, atherina, the Greek name for the eperlane; 1770 (Ref. 45335). Eponymy: Antoinette Kottelat-Kloetzli is the wife of the author, honoured “…in acknowledgment of her help at all stages of this and many other research projects.” (Also see Kloetzli) (Ref. 128868), visit book page. Differs from the other species of Telmatherina by the combination of the following characters: second dorsal fin and anal fin posteriorly rounded; anterior tip of premaxilla not projecting; palatine edentulous; snout width 0.88-1.05 times in its length; 14-17 predorsal scales; 33-34 scales in longitudinal row; 14-17 1/2 branched anal rays. The conspicuous color pattern of both blue and yellow morph males and their courting behavior make them identifiable at once in the field (Ref. 7305).
