Etymology: Crenicichla: Latin, crenulatus = cut, clipped + Greek, kichle = wrasse (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Proteus was a sea-god in Greek mythology who could change his form, referring to these fish’s colour changes from juvenile to adult and their colour morphs (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
