Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Inhabits stony rivulets (Ref. 6868); has been collected in little forest tributaries (3 to 4 m wide) with shallow depth, rocky bottom, strong current, often with cascades. Likewise, during the dry season, it has been found in a split brook with very little water input, where only 2 species of Rivulus (R. igneus and R. cladophorus were present, thus suggesting that Lithoxus is a pioneer species which is capable of colonizing difficult environments which are nutritionally poor (Ref. 35381).

Estimates based on models
Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref.
82804): PD
50 = 0.5010 [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01738 (0.00941 - 0.03210), b=3.05 (2.90 - 3.20), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this species & (Sub)family-body (Ref.
