Etymology: Epiplatys: Greek, epi = over, in front + Greek, platys = flat (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Dr Werner Neumann of Zwickau, Germany, was an aquarist with an interest in killifish. He wrote Die Hechtlinge (1983), which deals with the aquarium care of pike-like killifishes (Epiplatys, Aplocheilus, Pachypanchax, Episemion). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Africa: upper Dja (middle Congo River basin), Ntem, Ivindo and some northern tributaries of the middle Ogooué River, in Gabon, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon (Ref. 47774).
