Etymology: Hasemania: Because of John D. Haseman, the American collector of fishes (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: John Diederich Haseman (1882–1969) was a zoologist and ichthyologist. [...] Henrik Hansen was a breeder and exporter of aquarium fish at Gulf Fish Hatchery, Florida. He acquired living specimens of this species from Brazil and sent them to Fowler for study. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
