Etymology: Xyrichtys: Greek, xyreo = that cuts like a knife + Greek, ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335); javanicus: Name from the origin of the type (although this origin is now doubtful).

This species supposedly described from Indonesia ("Java" as indicated in the name) is doubtful (Ref. 78585:157; Ref: 88079:30,37). Please, send references or more studies are needed.
