Etymology: Elacatinus: Greek, elakatines = fusiform fishes preserved in salt (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: This is an unusual case where the prefix te is based on the initials of the collectors of the holotype: James C Tyler (q.v.) and William N Eschmeyer (q.v.). it is combined with nox -meaning ‘night’, and referring to the goby’s dark colour. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
