Jaw extends to posterior margin of the eye; eye is small; head displays a dorsal bulbous swelling behind eye, particularly in large individuals; caudal peduncle elongated. Principal caudal fin rays 11-13. Caudal fin rounded (Ref. 43717).

Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Inhabits ephemeral areas that dry out over summer and autumn months, where it aestivates in damp areas or under tree roots and logs (Ref. 43717).
