Etymology: Badis: 'badis' is presumably a Bengali local name, possibly derived from 'bhedo' or 'bheda', but it lacks a proper reference. Probably incorrect etymology (J. Müller, pers. comm., April 2021, after information from native speakers).

Black spots in vertical bars on sides; faint pattern of alternating light and dark stripes along the side. Caudal fin base with 3 distinct dark blotches basally. Scales in lateral row 26-28 (Ref. 46238).
Inhabits small creeks with dense vegetation (Ref. 43281). It is common in roadside ditches and similar lentic habitats in lowland (Ref. 46238).
