Etymology: Rasbora: Rasbora, an Indian word for a fish, also used in Malay peninsula.
Eponymy: Not a true eponym as it refers to Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, referring both to the fiery red colour of the fish and to the volcanic nature of Painan, West Sumatra, where the species occurs. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
