Etymology: Pseudophoxinus: Greek, pseudes = false + Greek, phoxinos = a certain river fish (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: This is a toponym referring to Nab’ Hasan, the source of a stream in Syria named Nahr Marqiya where this species is endemic. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
