Etymology: Andromakhe: Named for Áνδρομάχη, Andromakhe (‘battle of men’), a character in Greek mythology, she is the wife of Hector, Prince of Troy, and, in Homer’s epic poem Iliad, the mother of Ἀστυάναξ, Astyanax (‘city protector’).;  saguazu: Specific name derived from Guarani language word sa (eye) guazú (large)..

Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 12; Rayons mous anaux: 35; Vertèbres: 31 - 33. Maxillary teeth two or three; third or fourth tooth of outer premaxillary series inserted posteriorly to the rest; large eye 41-45% HL; first anal fin ray inserted anterior to last dorsal fin ray; anal fin rays iv-vi, 25-29; and perforated scales in lateral line series 37-39 (Ref. 52391).
