Etymology: Acentrophryne: Greek, 'a' = without + Greek, 'kentron' = prickle or spine + Greek, 'phryne' = toad (highlighting the single most important distinguishing feature of this genus: the absence of a preopercular spine) (Ref. 86949);  dolichonema: Name from the Greek word 'dolichos', meaning long; 'nema' meaning filament or thread, in allusion to the long, filamentous , distal escal appendage of this species..

Diagnosis: Metamorphosed females of Acentrophryne dolichonema differs from A. longidens in having a much longer distal escal appendage (27.6-35.7% SL vs. 2.3-2.5% SL ); a longer illicium (63.6-70.5% SL vs. 35.7-54.9% SL); a narrower head (25-28.1% SL vs. 35.7-37.3% SL); and a fewer number of pectoral fin rays (16 vs. 18-19) (Ref. 54827); caudal fin rays 9, ninth ray (ventral most) 10.5-17.3% SL (Ref. 86949).
