This species is distinguished from its congeners in the following set of characters: D VI,12-13 segmented rays; A 13 segmented rays; pectoral-fin rays 14-15, long pectoral fin, reaching past end of pelvic fins, its length 20-22% SL; caudal-fin with 8+7 segmented rays and long, 21-23% SL; large head 29-30% SL; long snout 12-16% head length; jaws are subequal, posterior end of jaws reaching posteriorly to or beyond vertical at anterior oculoscapular canal pore F?; tip of upper lip without a small anteriorly directed skin projection; reduced longitudinal pattern of sensory papillae rows; rounded caudal fin (Ref. 93255).
