Etymology: beucheyi: Named for Michael Beuchey, environmentalist and one of the collectors of the new species.
Eponymy: Michael Beuchey is an environmentalist and was one of the collectors of this species along with the authors, Jean Marc Beltramon and Christine Lambert. They have often collected together in the Bolivian Amazon. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
The type locality at the time of collection was composed of an elongated ephemeral pool measuring about 40 m long, 20 m wide, and 1.2 m deep, with brown water and dense aquatic vegetation. Other fish fishes found were only annual fishes such as Spectrolebias filamentosus and Pterolebias longipinnis (Ref. 110333).
