Etymology: fransvermeuleni: Named for collector and friend Frans Vermeulen, Aruba, in appreciation of his continued contributions towards discovery of new rivulids (Ref. 119428).

South America: currently known only from the type locality, a small stream at an altitude of about 130 m asl belonging to the Nickerie River drainage in western Suriname (Ref. 119428).

Radios blandos dorsales (total): 8-11; Radios blandos anales: 15 - 18. Diagnosis: Anablepsoides fransvermeuleni is distinguished from other members of the A. igneus group by the following combination of characters: frontal squamation D-patterned; 14-15 pectoralfin rays; 42-45 scales in the longitudinal series; 12-13 scales in the transverse series; males with 3 red interrupted stripes over a light blue background on the caudal peduncle; caudal-fin subtruncate, with a broad yellow distal margin; and females with a round black spot on dorsal portion of caudal-fin base (Ref. 119428).
