Etymology: Schistura: Greek, schizein = to divide + Greek, oura = tail; an allusion to forked caudal fins (Ref. 45335).

Known only from the holotype. Previously in the synonymy of Schistura desmotes (Fowler, 1934) (Ref. 39226).
