Asia: Lakes Tiberias and Muzairib in the Jordan system. Has apparently disappeared from Lake Hula.

Feeds on phytoplankton, higher plants and, to a lesser extent, zooplankton. Spawning season is from March to August and each specimen spawns at least 2-3 times during that period (Ref. 13609).
