Etymology: Stolephorus: Greek, stole, -es = garment + Greek, pherein = to carry (Ref. 45335); mercurius: Named for the guardian deity of merchants, referring to the commercial importance of the new species in Southeast Asian fisheries.
Eponymy: Mercury was the Roman god of travel, commerce and thieves. The authors describe him as ‘the guardian deity of merchants’, and chose the name “…in reference to the commercial importance of the new species in Southeast Asian fisheries.” (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
