Etymology: Odontostilbe: Greek, odous = teeth + Greek, stilbe, es = lamp (Ref. 45335); avanhandava: 'avanhandava', i.e., refers to Salto do Avanhandava, falls of the rio Tietê, the locality of collection of the oldest known specimen, collected by John D. Haseman in 1908 (Ref. 128907).
