Wervels: 191 - 194. This species of the Gymnothorax prolatus group is distinguished by the following characters: vertebrae in predorsal 6-7, preanal 83-91, total 191-194, preanal length 48.2-51.8% TL, maxillary teeth are biserial anteriorly and uniserial posteriorly, intermaxillary teeth uniserial (Ref. 129614).
Cross section: oval.
Collected by bottom trawl with shallow demersal fishes, suggesting that the species lives at less
than 100 meters (Ref. 129614).
