Etymology: Hypsopanchax: Greek, hypsi = high + Panchax, a word created by Meinken in 1932.
Eponymy: A J Jobaert of Lulua, Democratic Republic of Congo, was Warden of the Muene Ditu Game Reserve (1950s–1960s) and collected for the Musée Royal de l’Afrique Central. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
