Africa: basins of the upper Ogooué, upper Niari, upper Louesse, Loeme, upper Kouilou and Foulakari (lower Congo River tributary) in southeastern Gabon and central and western Republic of Congo (Ref. 59344).

Occurs in small forest brooks and rivers, usually moderate to fast-flowing bodies of water under forest cover (Ref. 59344). Not a seasonal killifish. Is very difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139).
