Fontanel confined to anterior half of head; long adipose fin separated from dorsal-fin base; over 40 gill rakers on lower arm of first arch (Ref. 12693).
Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Found in lowland streams and peats (Ref. 57235). Adults occur in large rivers. Feed on insect larvae and zooplankton. Oviparous, distinct pairing possibly like other members of the same family (Ref. 205).
