Chaves de identificação | Morfologia | Morfometria
Espinhos dorsais (total) : 0; Raios dorsais (total) : 12 - 13; Espinhos anais: 0; Raios anais : 8. Eye diameter less than 1.5 times in snout length, less than 1.1 times in interorbital width, and less than 5 times in head length; head length the same as body depth; lower and upper jaw close equally or lower jaw extends anteriorly from upper jaw; usually a well developed nuchal hump.
Occurs over muddy, sandy and rocky substrates (with slight preference for rocks), usually in water deeper than 3 m. Feeds on insects (both larvae and adults); small specimens also eat zooplankton, while large ones sometimes exclusively feed on fish (Ref. 35835).
