Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Ecologia
; Água doce demersal. Tropical
South America: lower to upper Amazon basin.
Tamanho / Peso / Idade
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 3.5 cm SL macho/indeterminado; (Ref. 49504)
Raios dorsais (total) : 44 - 56; Raios anais : 46 - 49; Vértebras: 35 - 36. Lacks a gill opening on the eyed side; having 2 or 3 series of scales with rounded posterior margin and larger than other trunk scales along dorsal, anal and pelvic fin bases on the eyed side. Similar to Apionichthys asphyxiatus in the absence of a gill opening on the eyed side, but differs in its larger interorbital space that is 2 to 4 times the orbital diameter (vs. interorbital space half the orbital diameter).
