The diagnostic lateral cephalic stripe of this species, reminiscent of a smile, is a symbol of Avi’s gentle disposition and goodhearted nature. It further differs by having the following characters: a lateral cephalic stripe; a deeper caudal peduncle; 20-22 circumpeduncular scales; 9 pelvic-fin rays; a total pectoral-fin ray modal count of 15; 43-45 lateral-line scales (Ref. 96077).
