Etymology: Myoglanis: Greek, myos = muscle, and also, mouse + Greek, glanis = a fish that can eat the bait without touching the hook; a cat fish (Ref. 45335);  koepckei: Named in honor of Hans-Wilhelm Koepcke, who started and was the first curator of the ichthyological collections of the Museo de Historia Natural, Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima (Ref. 38033).
